Following on from our newsfeed from March this year on the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for the UK, we would like to give you an update today.
The UK Home Office has now introduced the electronic travel authorization for foreign nationals who can enter the UK without a visa for citizens from Qatar. From 22.02.2024, this will also apply to citizens of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The electronic travel authorization requirement will also be gradually implemented for citizens of other countries of origin who can currently enter the country without a visa. This also includes the countries of the European Union, which are currently expected to require the electronic travel authorization from the end of 2024.
Citizens of all other nationalities who do not have a visa waiver agreement with the UK will still require a visa to enter the UK.
The processing time for the electronic travel authorization at the authorities is normally 48-72 hours. Visitors are allowed to spend 180 days (6 months) in the UK and visit any part of the country. Holders of the British ETA only need to scan the passport with which they made the application when they arrive at the border. The entry permit will then be checked electronically.
The corresponding application for the electronic travel authorization is available for you in the DVKG portal.
